Community Orchard

IMG_2836.JPG

Through our Community Orchard program we pick thousands of pounds of fresh local fruit. Volunteers who participate can take home some of their harvest for themselves and their family. Explore the beauty of our region and help your neighbors in need at the same time!

Over the last ten years we have registered over 500 residential fruit trees, berry patches and grape vines across the Palouse and LC Valley. With the help of a small but dedicated staff and lots of volunteers we glean and distribute apples, peaches, cherries, plums, apricots, and more each season.

Do you have a fruit tree that is mostly feeding the birds or want to share the bounty of your berry patch?

Want some FREE fruit?  Volunteer and some of what you pick -- the rest goes to those in need.

Harvest Share

Through our Harvest Share program community members can donate extra produce from their gardens and farms. We collect these donations at a variety of locations and events throughout the area and are happy to stop by and pick up from you directly, too. We are grateful for all of our community partner gardens that are also helping to grow for the greater good -- feeding our neighbors.

Between our Community Orchard and Harvest Share programs -- distribution is combined for efficiency and to provide a variety of produce -- we have harvested and distributed over 250,000 pounds of fresh food that would have otherwise went to waste.

Feel free drop off extra produce with us:

And if you can't make it to us, we will do our best to come and pick it up:

  • Call 208-669-2259 or click here to send an email
  • Please provide the following information
    •        Name, address, phone
    •        Size of donation and location (on the porch, near the garage, etc.)
  • Leave produce unwashed and place into grocery bags or cardboard boxes
  • Every effort will be made to pick-up the produce within 24 hrs of your call or email.

Shop the Market

Backyard Harvest has partnered with the City of Moscow, the City of Pullman, and the Moscow Food Co-op to allow for the acceptance of federal food assistance funds (SNAP) at the Saturday Moscow Farmer's Market, the Tuesday Growers Market, and the Wednesday Pullman Farmers Market. Our hope is for everyone in our community to be able to enjoy our local markets and purchase fresh, locally-grown fruits, veggies, breads, honey, eggs & more.

Over the last ten years we have processed over 3, 300 EBT/SNAP transactions for over $54,000 while providing an additional $16,000 in FREE market funds for Shop the Market participants for a total of over $70,000 spent on fresh, local foods.

This year, thanks to the Food for All program we are able to offer $2 Fresh Bucks to be spend on fresh fruits and veggies for every $5 processed! So, if you use $5 you will actually get $7 to spend at the market and if you use $15 you will actually get $21 -- that's 40% extra every time you Shop the Market!
